Einstein's 2nd postulate is superfluous and redundant because the speed of sound does not depend on the motion of the source either, and there really is no mistery or paradox as to why that happens. Einstein wrongly believed that this was a special case which only applied to light waves, and which required a special postulate, and a special theory of relativity to explain the invariance. What Einstein did is as dumb and superfluous as postulating ‘sound is emmited with a definitive speed v which does not depend on the motion of the source’. Then by applying his first postulate which is the principle of galilean relativity, he would conclude that time and space distort and contract in order to keep the speed of sound constant in all inertial frames, and that the medium of sound (the preferred frame which galilean relativity rejects from the start) is ‘superfluous’ and can be discarded.
